Alta Escuela (meaning High-Level School) is where you’ll learn the most challenging aspects of classic dressage. This art dates back to the Baroque age in the 17th century, with the stallions’ natural display and gesture first trained by hand, before being perfected in the saddle.
Also the source and inspiration behind classical dressage, Alta Escuela is seen as the systematic exercise of the horse and the perfections of its movements.
The ‘School on the Earth’ features piaffe, passage, pirouette and the Spanish step, trot or greeting, and is considered one of the highest disciplines. Meanwhile, the ‘School above the Earth’ includes lessons like Levade and Courbette, as well as the school jump (caper).
